Why You Need an Agent Who's Real

Show of hands - who believes in being a real friend? Like a tell-you-how-it-is, we can be honest with each other kind of friend?

I’m real with my friends.

Friend: “Does this shirt look good?”

Me: “Ehh, not your best fit.”

Friend: “Did you do well on that test?”

Me: “Did okay. Missed some I should’ve known.”

Friend: “Do you think I should go blonde?”

Me: “Yeah, you’d look good as a blonde. Maybe that cute, honey blonde that’s all over the Insta right now!”

My friends ask my opinion because I give it to them straight. I ride the line of brutal honesty and sugarcoating it. I also don’t pretend to know stuff when I don’t, but I will always find an answer for them. I give the same courtesy to my clients. In a recent blog post I talked about how I got talked into buying the clear coat for my car at the dealership. When I told my husband about the post he said “Wow, that’s, uhhh, not something most people would share.” I said “Why not?” His response? “Because it’s really honest. Most people wouldn’t put something out there socially that shows them making a mistake. Most people want to appear perfect.” Well, he’s probably right. Most people wouldn’t. But here’s the thing, I believe in being real and being honest for two reasons:

  1. If I’m honest with you about my own life and my own mistakes you can trust I’ll be honest with you about anything involving your home.

  2. Being perfect is boring. I want to connect with real, relatable people. I want to do business with real humans and I want people to do business with me because I’m real, not perfect.

The Real Agent Advantage

The real life moments, the mistakes? Those teach us things and make us laugh. Those help us feel connected and if we share moments of vulnerability then we have a mutual understanding of trust. Trust is essential in you being comfortable with me  I want all of my clients to know that I’m real with them the same way I’m real with my friends. I do this because I want you to trust me. Guiding you through the purchase of your home is a task that requires us to trust one another. I tell you when I don’t know something, then I find you a solution. To make sure you don’t feel cheated in your inspection report or on the purchase price of your home, you have to know that when I give you the facts or my own opinion I’m not intentionally guiding you down the wrong path. The only way to know that, to feel that, is if you feel like the person sitting across the table from you is treating you the way your best friend would - by keeping it real. There are a lot of things that go into buying a home and you’ll likely have many questions. When you turn to me during a home showing and say “I don’t know. What do you think of this home?” I want you to know that I’m giving you my real opinion. I’m not selling you the clear coat. I’m not “salesemen-ing” you. I give you the facts, my professional opinion, and if you really want I’ll give you my personal opinion too.
