Why You Need to Attend a Home Buyer Event
“Should we buy before or after we’re married?”
“When is the best time to buy?”
“When should we start looking for a home?”
Often when I sit down for a coffee with a new home buyer these are some of the first questions that I hear. I remember being a home buyer myself and not knowing where to start with my search. My stream of thoughts went something like “Who do I talk to first? Am I bothering an agent by asking some questions? Am I going to get a million phone calls from Zillow if I click this button for more info?” I’m sure you’ve had few of these thoughts yourself.
Reason #1: Feel Prepared
If any of these thoughts have crossed your mind attending a home buyer event is for you. I hate for people to feel uncomfortable and unsure when they are getting ready to do something, especially something like buy a home. This is the largest purchase you’ll likely ever make so you should feel completely prepared for it. Often I feel like buyers are left tripping over the major milestones of their home buying journey because they were not fully prepared. So reason #1 you need to attend a home buyer event: You will feel more prepared to start your home search once you've attended one of these events.
Reason #2: Meet Home Partners
There are so many small nuances in the home buying journey that it’s important for you to know what is going to pop up and what professionals you'll need to line up. Think of your home the same way you think of planning for your wedding day. You wouldn't just pick a photographer out of thin air to shoot your wedding, would you? You shouldn't pick your inspector, your realtor, or you homeowner's insurance on a whim either. A home buyer event gives you an opportunity to meet and "interview" at least one person in each of the major milestones categories you'll need when you write a contract on a home.
Reason #3: Start Your Research
If people were to crown me with a high school superlative it would be Most Likely to Research and Plan Something to Death. I love to be fully prepared for any major life event, large or small! My desire to be prepared is the reason I create Say Yes to the Address and the Home Schooled e-course. I assume I'm not the only one out there who likes a little extra info before making any major, life altering decisions. Home buyer events, like Say Yes to the Address, give you the opportunity to start your research and get to know more about the journey of home buying.
Reason #4: Get Answers to Your Questions
Raise your hand if you were the teacher's pet in school? You always had an answer? Well, if you don't know all the answers and would prefer to ask #allthequestions then you're in the right place. A home buyer event is the perfect place to ask all those questions you've been storing away in your brain. You don't have to feel like you're bothering anyone or blindly reach out to someone. You can figure out if you're in the right place to buy a home without all the pressure. Some questions you might ask?
- Should I talk to a lender or a Realtor® first?
- What parts of the home does a home inspector review?
- What does my closing attorney or closing company actually do?
- What info does the lender need to qualify me for a home?
- Why should I consider a home insurance provider that isn’t my car insurance provider?
Reason #5: It's a Pressure Free Environment
Yep! Probably the best reason of all; home buyer events take the pressure off sitting down with someone one-on-one. You don't have to worry about if you're wasting someone's time or if you're going to get 100 calls from Zillow since you clicked that "Get More Info" button. You've been INVITED to this event so take advantage of the no pressure scene! I know it may seem silly to attend a home buyer event but it is just like attending a wedding show after you get engaged. These pressure free events give you an opportunity to get to know the buying timeline, the home partners you'll need during this time, and get answers to some of your questions about where to start your home buying journey! Do you live in the Richmond, Virginia area? I'm hosting a home buyer event in November! I hope to see you there! If you are interested in coming you can RSVP and find out details here!
Cheers,
