Interior Design Options for Anyone

Raise your hand if you have about four "Dream Home" boards on your Pinterest? Yep, me too. I have so many ideas I'd love to execute but we all know moving from what we see on those pretty little digital boards to real life is a little more difficult than we kind of were hoping it would be. That's why the hashtag #PinterestFail is a thing.I know someone who is a boss lady at making your Pinterest dreams come true in your home, though! Meet Chaney Widmer, Founder and Lead Designer at Mix and Match Design Company. I love Chaney and her company because she has developed a way to have that oh-so-coveted design experience you wish for with a professional interior designer at a reasonable price. I had Chaney answer a few popular questions I get about her company below. You can also see some of her real work below and on her website!

How would you describe Mix and Match Designs in one sentence?

Mix & Match Design Company is a virtual interior design business that offers affordable and approachable decorating services ("e-design"), as well as education and inspiration through its twice-weekly blog posts and on Instagram.

What is the process for working with Mix and Match Designs?

To kick off your project, you'll purchase your e-design package, which is a one-time flat fee that covers the design of a room in your home. Then we enter the information gathering phase, which includes taking a short survey about your needs, budget, and style as well as sending over room photos, a floor plan, and inspiration images. Once I have that information in hand, we start the fun part - the design phase! Together, we'll create your dream design for that space. It's a collaborative process - I'll present design boards showing the furniture and decor I recommend, you'll provide feedback, and I'll make revisions until you sign off on the final design. At the end, you'll receive a shopping list with links to the exact products in the design and a floor plan. With that information in hand, you'll be ready to shop and set up the space. You can work at your own pace, making purchases as you're ready. [gallery size="medium" ids="845,846,847"]

Do you do entire homes or do you only do one room at a time?

Both! If you only need help designing your living room, that's great. I've also worked on larger projects that include most rooms in the house. Most commonly, folks request to design one or two spaces in their homes at a time. That's the beauty of e-design - since the services are bundled by room, you can choose to work on as many or as few as you'd like. There is no minimum, and I'm happy to work with any budget!

What if a client has a piece they want to include in my new design?

That's a very common request and one that I am happy to work with - after all, the name of my company is "Mix & Match!" If you have a sofa you're keeping or an heirloom from grandma, we'll figure out the best way to incorporate it into the design. All I'll need from you is a photo of the piece(s) and its measurements, or a link to the piece online if you have it. [gallery size="medium" ids="844,843,842"]

What is your favorite part about designing with clients?

There are so many, but a big one is knowing that I'm helping them create a space they love and that they can proudly share with others. Home should be a happy place and a retreat, being able to play a small role in making that happen is a joy. Most people feel overwhelmed at the prospect of creating a beautiful home, but think that working with a designer is out of reach. Mix & Match offers a chance for folks to do that without breaking the bank.

What is your go-to item to add some personality to a space (art, rugs, accent chair, etc.)?

I typically recommend that you go with neutral colors for the large pieces in a room (like a sofa) since they are usually more expensive and permanent, and then add accessories like throw pillows to bring in personality. They are my go-to items since they come in any pattern and color you can think of, and you can swap them out in a budget-friendly way down the road if you get tired of them. If you're feeling bold, a rug can also be a fantastic option to bring in some color and style.

Where can everyone find you?

My website is a great starting point, and I also hang out on Instagram a lot. You can find project reveals, inspiration, and education about decorating over on the blog (subscribe if you'd like!). Come say hello!
