Chai tea at Grit Coffee
Grit Coffee just took root in the Libbie Grove neighborhood and is a perfect addition. With Starbucks gone from the Libbie-Grove corner local, walkable residents have been pining for a new spot to walk to on Saturday mornings. The chai tea latte has the perfect amount of spice balanced with a creamy base. Often I find chai tea lattes can seem thin (or watered down) but the one from Grit is perfect. I like grabbing a hot chai tea latte and then strolling down to the produce stand on Libbie and Patterson that’s around on weekends.
Pumpkin Beer Comparison at the local breweries
I know not everyone is a fan but I LOVE pumpkin beer. Most breweries in Richmond have an autumn beer lineup with at least one pumpkin beer in the mix. We recently visited Hardywood Westcreek and had several of their beers while we enjoyed the cooler weather. I enjoyed the Farmhouse Pumpkin I tried but I think my husband favored the Rum Barrel Pumpkin. Either one is a good choice.
Gelati Celesti Pumpkin Gingersnap Release
I literally countdown for this every autumn. Gelati Celesti just released their Pumpkin Gingersnap ice cream this past weekend and I can’t wait to get my hands on some. I’m not a PSL fan but this - THIS is my seasonal favorite and must have pumpkin treat.
Pumpkin Patches
Richmond isn’t too far from some great pumpkin patches. Swift Creek Berry Farm for Southsiders and Ashland Berry Farm for those North of the River are both great options if you’re looking to pick your own pumpkins and enjoy some fall activities with the kids. Think mazes, gourd picking, apple cider, and sometimes even a petting zoo. For those big kids who like a little scare Ashland Berry Farm also offers a haunted maze. It may not be running this year with social distancing so check ahead of time before driving out.
Watching the leaves change in the city
One of the things I loved about going to college at VCU was seeing the leaves change on Monument Avenue. I loved driving down Monument (on my errands to Target form campus) under the orange and burgundy canopy. I also love The Fan in the fall; just walking down the street with a coffee and admiring the beautiful houses in the backdrop of the leaves. One other place to view the new fall scene in RVA? Libbie Hill park makes a beautiful spot. I like grabbing a hot hand pie from Proper Pie Co (peach bbq is my top recommendation), snag a bench in Libbie Hill park and enjoy the scenery of the city in fall.
