5 Things to Help Prepare For the Snow

It's happening again. Andrew Freiden, meteorologist at NBC 12 here in Richmond, VA, is calling for more snow tomorrow. Most of Richmond and surrounding areas is look at one to two inches of snow, which we all know means no school and heavily covered roads. The good news it seems the city has already started prepping by pre-salting the roads. If you're one of the unlucky ones who will still be heading into work tomorrow, snow or no snow, here are five things you can do once you're home this evening to make your morning commute a little easier.

1. Bring Out the Duck Boots

Go ahead and grab those L.L. Bean duck books (or any all-weather boot you  have) and put them by the door stuffed with your warm socks! This will save you from hunting for them in the AM when you realize your walkway is frozen.

2. Pre-Salt Your Walkway, Deck, and Drive

Speaking of walkways, grab a bag of salt from Home Depot on your way home (or order on Amazon Now) and pre-salt your walkway, deck and driveway. If you have a steep driveway like we do this will be crucial for when it melts a little Wednesday afternoon and then freezes that nice icy top layer.

3. Bring Your Ice Scraper Inside

This is one I never think about but dawned on me this morning. Bring your ice scraper inside. That way you don't have to risk dumping snow in your car when you open the door to get it out. By the way, this is the best ice scraper we've ever bought.

4. Prep Your Car

Again, I'm never thinking about this until I'm driving. Check tonight and make sure you have plenty of windshield wiper fluid. All the salt on the roads mixed with the snow end up making it hard to see out of your windows by the end of your drive. Also, put your windshield wipers up so they aren't buried in the snow on the car.

5. Put Your Shovel by the Door

Grab your snow shovel from the shed and place it by your door. It's not a huge deal but it does keep you from having to trek out in the snowy yard before you're ready.

Happy Snow Prep,
